Subject: Re: Records Management under IT - Yes or No?

<Just to clarify I never stated that IT was too complex for RM
professionals. I said we could not, at least most of us, understand the
full complexity of IT issues. We don't walk in their shoes and they
don't walk in ours. We spend most of our time with RM issues and they
spend most of their time with IT issues. We gained experience and
received training in RM, meanwhile they gained experience and received
training in IT.>

It still sounds condescending, the idea that most of us could not
understand the full complexity of IT issues. I could name quite a few
records managers on this list that could step in and successfully run
their organization's IT group. The thing about "the full complexity of
IT issues" is that the IT area is changing so fast, the IT specialists
can't keep up. Most of them would not admit that, but they are
overwhelmed.

IT hardware and software are only tools. IT groups work best when
they're headed up by people who can manage people, manage change, and
manage business processes. Sounds like some records managers I know.
