Yes we do rely entirely on their software and that's what is driving me batty, because it's really an awful program. The vendor just added "Records Management" code on top of their inventory tracking system and it really doesn't do the job. The contract was signed and in place before I was hired. The bottom line is that legal/purchasing believed the vendor when they said their product could do it all. Unfortunately the decision-makers had no RIM knowledge and relied on the vendor to tell them what they needed to know.

I find the argument about the software an interesting one though, because if I read you right, you're saying you rely SOLELY ON THEIR software and data management for tracking your assets stored off site?  Don't you find this a bit risky?
