Larry.... I hate to keep harping on this every time I comment on the
Listserve, but it all goes back to basics.

It seems that most people are so caught up in implementing the glitzy
technologies that they forget to base those technologies on the basics of
records management.  The basic questions of a Vital Records program don't
get asked.  Questions like.... which of our records are vital to the
organization?  How are we going to protect them?  What disasters are likely
to plague us?  What is our acceptance level for certain situations, that is,
how much are we going to gamble that these disasters will not hit us?  The
list goes on.

Many organizations consider their backup media to be their vital records
protection, not realizing that those media are constantly written over
deleting the records that they need to protect.
