After completing a Records retention schedule of all our records, using
legal citations and best practices, our insurance claims retention is
E+6. This is Event plus 6 years, the Event being the termination of the
insurance policy. The policy would have terminated at least as late as
the dissolution of the company. Hope this helps.

Subject: [RM] Retention of records after the dissolution of a company

 <http://mm1.lettermark.net/poynerspruill/lhead/poynerspruill.map>

Happy Holidays to everyone. My name is Bradlee Davis. I am the firm
wide Records Manager for NC based firm of Poyner and Spruill. I am also
the president of the Triangle Chapter of ARMA here in Raleigh, NC.
Poyner is a firm with over 100 years of history and over a 100 years of
no Records and Information Management program. I was hired on to build
their RIM program from the ground up about 1.5 years ago. Things are
going very well and we are making some great strides but there is a lot
to wade through and a huge culture change taking place here. I used to
be a member of the listserv when I was with my previous employer but
have not been since starting with Poyner and Spruill. I have been in
the industry for about 8 years now and look forward to many more years
and getting know many more of you on a professional level.

Here is my first question: Poyner has large store of records belonging
to a client company that they represented that has completely dissolved
as of 1999 (company does not exist anymore). Within these files are
thousands of individual personal claims against the client company. We
are questioning the appropriate way to handle the retention/destruction
of these files since the company no longer exists. We have some
thoughts but would like to get feed back from others.

Thanks,
