Hi Trudy,

I use OneNote for research purposes and have started using it in
parallel to our 'official' project recordkeeping system for meetings etc
to see what the implications are. It is extremely versatile and useful -
a colleague's reaction was "at last! Something from Microsoft that
really works!" - and I imagine that as it becomes better known, its use
will be widespread within projects and organizations. So yes, a
nightmare if it is not treated as a recordkeeping application from the
word go.

However, it should be relatively easy to incorporate into ERM within MS
Office and ERM systems - far more easily than Outlook, for example, as
it is managed within the standard Office folder structure. The way it is
set up is that within each Notebook, there are different tabs: the
beauty of this from the records manager's point of view is that each tab
appears automatically as a separate file in the folder structure, with
the entire notebook appearing in the form of a file. So the tabs can be
therefore be treated in the same way as conventional sub-folders, and
the same sort of rules regarding classification, retention, titling, etc
applied to them and to the main folder (notebook). No doubt there are
many headaches out there that I haven't encountered yet, but so far, it
doesn't look like a really scary RIM monster.

Regards,

Rachel.
