Dear Sandra,

This is an easy one. It sounds like your company has a lot of "records"
that are loosely organized. You first need to identify record types. Then
as you do your inventory you can assign each cache of records to a type.
You may find that there are some "records" in the collection that are not
really records. This is good, because they can probably be destroyed.

The net gain of these activities will be an improvement in the records
management process and mostly probably a reduction in storage as well as
management costs.

Subject: Records Assessment vs. Records Inventory

It has been awhile since I've done anything other than lurk, and now it
seems that I have only questions to ask rather than anything to offer.

I am looking for help from the list on how to justify doing a Records
Inventory in addition to a Records Assessment, instead of doing just a
Records Assessment.

Has anyone out there had to do this kind of justification?

Many thanks in advance,

Sandra Tucker
