Position:	Records Management Specialist - Taxonomist


Opening Date: 5/2/2008				Closing Date: 5/8/2008


Location:	Johnson Space Center (or Offsite Location), Building 45, Room 222


Duties:
This individual will need to be very process oriented since we will also be focusing on meta data usage across various collections of media.  The preferred experience requirement is knowledgeable about the NASA environment and programs.  They will be responsible for the following activities:
*	Coordinate the development of descriptive, administrative, and structural metadata to support the functional requirements of an expanding media interoperability strategy. 
*	Create and edit terms and records for a centralized corporate thesaurus of controlled vocabularies used to enhance the search and retrieval of digital media assets.
*	Perform research and analysis of company terminology, confirmation and ingestion of definitions (scope notes), authority lists, and relating relevant cross references and term associations.
*	Shape, guide, and manage the processes for provision of metadata for the Center digital collections 
*	Coordinate metadata activities, maintain communication among all staff associated with the creation of metadata, work closely with the repository knowledge experts and project sponsors to develop appropriate structures and levels of detail for digital projects
*	Coordinate and/or carry out training for metadata providers and taxonomy contributors.
*	Potential Responsibilities:
*       Determine appropriate content for hierarchical work and item records
*       Reconcile issues of data content between various record structures
*       Approve and process submitted terms from various business units
*       Conduct research projects for categorical additions
*       Implement categorical expansions
*       Assist in training and development
*       Maintain awareness of advances in image cataloging, metadata standards, and database technology.


Qualifications: 
*	MLS from an ALA-accredited program, with an emphasis on digital libraries and technologies or comparable degree.
*	Demonstrates exceptional workplace behaviors in the execution of their specific position responsibilities. These behaviors are customer focus, collaboration, creative problem solving, continuous learning and a commitment to excellence.


Desired Experience:
*	Experience with document, content, and taxonomy-management systems. 
*	Experience doing user research and usability testing 
*	Experience preparing business or technical documentation 
*	Basic knowledge of XML, SQL, HTML 
*	Project management experience
