"How, may I ask, does one do this???

In my ignorance, I tried to do a File, Save As, with .msg extension -- which appeared to work -- but I couldn't open it."

From my understanding, you can create the same folder structure you have in Outlook in Windows Explorer, and then click and drag e-mail messages into the new structure. They will be saved as .msg files. That will get them off of your e-mail client and into Explorer so they can be reviewed later.
