Subject: [archives] New book on leading and managing archives and records
programs
To: "Archives & Archivists (A&A) List" <[log in to unmask]>

Neal-Schuman Publishers has just published (May 2008) Leading and Managing
Archives and Records Programs: Strategies for Success. I served as editor
of the book.

http://www.neal-schuman.com/bdetail.php?isbn=9781555706159

The book is the third in its Archivist's and Records Manager's Bookshelf
series.

The book is available from SAA at a discounted price for SAA members.

The book presents helpful insights, practical advice, effective strategies,
and useful information. The summary information on the web site provides a
good overview of the book but I thought it might be useful to let you know
about the entire list of authors:

Eugenia K. Brumm, "The Records Management Leader"
Diane G. Carlisle, "Records Management Standards: What They Are and Why They
are Important"
Carole E.B. Choksy, "Leading a Successful Records Management Program"
Bruce W. Dearstyne (editor), "Setting the Stage: Challenges and
Opportunities in Leading Archives and Records Programs," "Leading Archives
and Records Programs: Perspectives and Insights," and "Issues and Sources"
Peter Emmerson, "From Cultural Luxury to 'The Way We Do Things…?'The
Influence of Leadership in Archives and Records Management"
James E. Fogerty, "Competing for Relevance: Archives in a Multiprogram
Organization"
Mark A. Greene, "Trying to Lead From Good to Great and Some Reflections on
Leadership at All Levels"
Edie Hedlin, "Meeting Leadership Challenges: Lessons from Experience"
Philip F. Mooney, "Stranger in a Strange Land: The Archivist and the
Corporation"
Gregory Sanford and Tanya Marshall, "Managing Change at the Vermont State
Archives: A Continuing Issue"
Kelvin Smith, "Appraising, Transferring, Preserving, and Making Available
Born-Digital Records from Central Government Departments ("Seamless Flow")
Leon Stout, "Leading from the Middle: Building a University Archives"
Christine Ward, "The State Archives, Education, and Politics in New York"

Royalties from the book are being dedicated to the SAA Foundation and the
ARMA International Educational Foundation.
