Joe,
The contract is being amended when changes are made. The company I work for
moves amended contracts from active to inactive status where the retention
periods begin. The inactive retention status was determined by reviewing
any legal statues that applies to the contract and by reviewing the
lifecycle of assets assigned to the contract.

Another consideration for determining the retention period of the contract
would be whether your company could be the plaintiff or defendant in
litigation. If your company can be the plaintiff you may want to keep the
contract longer that if the company can be the defendant.

Hope this helps

Subject: Retention Question

Hello. what is the general rule regarding retention guidelines for keeping
revised records? Example a contract is signed off today; 6 mths later the
contract needs to be changed. How long or do you need to keep the original
contact?

Regards,

Joe
