the fees are not waived but are built into the overall storage fee that you
are charged over the life of the contract. if your contract is for 3 years
the CRC has calculated in the repayment of such fees over the life of the
contract. The original intent of 'hostage fee' was to make sure that the
customer didn't pull out all of their boxes before the end of the contract.
Ideally the 'perm out'/hostage fee' should go to zero at the end of the
initial contract since the vendor has recovered the funds. Now if you have
destroyed boxes during the course of the initial contract you may be liable
for the fee unless you can show that new materials sent in after the initial
intake balance outs what has been destroyed.
some contracts don't use the term "perm out" anymore but instead call it an
administrative charge for cleaning up their database.
