EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING 
NOW AVAILABLE
The Secretary of State, State Archives Division, and the State Department of General Services, Records and Information Management unit (CalRIM), have partnered with the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) to offer emergency preparedness webinar training for California government agencies.  Under the Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records (IPER) project, two webinars and one on-line recorded program are available free of charge. They are intended for employees and government officials of both state and local governments that are responsible for the creation, maintenance, access, and use of public records in California.  
Here are the courses that are available or will be offered in the near future:

This 90-minute narrated presentation is available online. It focuses on the practices fundamental to the efficient and economical operations of any organization. When disasters strike, organizations with effective records and information management programs are more likely to be able to access essential records and resume critical business operations quickly. This 6-hour course will prepare participants to:
*	identify an agency's essential records 
*	analyze and prioritize records, assessing specific risks and identifying protection strategies
*	specify time frames for essential records availability in emergencies
*	develop procedures to ensure access to and security of essential records 
*	outline an essential records plan for inclusion in COOP 
*	become familiar with federal, state, and local COOP regulations and procedures 
			This webinar will be offered twice. 
			You can register for Track A or Track B. Both tracks will include four sessions over a four week period and will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
 A	March 15, 1:00-3:00	March 22, 1:00-3:00	March 29, 1:00-3:00	April 5, 1:00-3:00	
 B	March 17, 1:00-3:00	March 24, 1:00-3:00	April 1, 1:00-3:00	April 7, 1:00-3:00	

Participation will be limited to thirty people for each track. Once your reservation has been confirmed, we will send instructions on how to register for the sessions and prepare for the course.

Registration deadline for Track A is March 4th. The deadline for Track B is March 7th.

This 6-hour course will prepare participants to:
*	understand the benefits of records emergency planning 
*	relate records emergency planning to COOP plans and procedures 
*	plan, develop, analyze, and test a records emergency action plan 
*	assess the damage to records after an emergency and implement a response  
*	identify federal, state, and local resources and the availability of intergovernmental personnel and support to assist when a disaster occurs
			This webinar will be offered later this year.
