and let us not forget that customers can also be cause of problems. I worked
for one company where the AP function stopped paying the vendor's invoices.
why? because the purchase order amount had been used up. The problem was
that the folks who negotiated the contract for the company only included the
monthly storage cost on the purchase order failing to include an estimate
for the various fees (ins/outs, delivery, rush etc). was not easy cleaning
up that mess. The CRC ended up stopping service that is how we found out
what had happened.
same company had a rule that vendors could enter the building and go to the
appropriate location only if they had one of our company issued ID badges.
no one thought to badge the CRC's drivers, so when they made a delivery they
had to wait for the individual who made the request or to whom they were to
deliver the records to show up and escort them. but if the driver arrived at
lunch that individual might not be out there. The driver under the CRC rules
could wait only 15 minutes and then they had to leave AND they couldn't just
leave the records. Internal customers complained about not getting records
until I discovered the underlying problem.
at another company AP refused to pay the CRC bills because it said statement
not invoice.
My experience over the years has been good with both independents and the
big guys. I've learned a lot from talking with folks who operate CRCs and to
understand what they are faced with.
