We have 7,000 cartons stored in a leased facility which last May tested for
high levels of mold spores. The roof was leaking and there was visible mold so
this wasn't a huge surprise. We have since required the owner to take
corrective action which has significantly brought down the mold spore count,
but it is still higher than one would prefer.

We haven't put up too much of a fight since we anticipate moving into our
newly constructed records storage facility at the end of this year, which is
part of a disaster recovery/learning center.

Eventually all 7,000 cartons will be removed from the old facility and placed on
a pristine shelf in the new one (ahh, gives me goose bumps just thinking about
it!). I digress...Obviously there is mold "matter" that has accumulated on
exposed surfaces in the current facility. I'm just wondering how worried I need
to be about relocating the mold as the boxes make their way across town.

To give you a visual, the boxes are currently stacked four-high and snaked
through out the facility (Don't laugh, it's what I inherited). With that said, my
main concern is the top box of each stack as this is where most of the
dust/mold "matter" has settled.

My first thought was to re-box everything in these top boxes. I also called a
local disaster recovery contractor who suggested a number of remedies,
including "air washing" or vacuuming and wiping down the boxes.

I would love to get anyone's feedback who has dealt with this scenario. Or if
there are any resident mold experts, please chime in. Any thoughts or
suggestions are greatly appreciated.
