don't know if there is an international standard, but what I can say is
that the FDA regulation is the minimum time that the information must be
retained. The company can always keep the information for longer than the
regulatory minimum.
This reminds me of back when I was developing a retention schedule for an
O&G company. The federal retention requirement for information about wells
was 'retain for 3 years after plugging and abandonment". The geologist,
geophysicists and petroleum engineers nearly had strokes when that period
was suggested. They explained to me why they never wanted to destroy those
records.
