I wonder if anyone would care to generalize for me the types of data that 
reside on a mainframe computer. I understand that main frames are for 
enterprise-wide computing, requiring a huge volume of processing, 
stability, and security. But what characterizes main frame data, and what 
distinctions can be made between main frame data and other types of ESI 
that are not typically kept on main frames but reside on other tiers or 
platforms?

I have Googled this question and even found an IBM manual online, but no 
sources found there explain it from a standpoint that a records manager 
really needs to understand.
