Glad you're back, Sharon.

Our electronic message policy says something to the effect that text messages are ephemeral and not an appropriate medium for managing information that could qualify as a record. Therefore, text messages should not be used for record-level information. However, if such info gets included in a text message, the active participant(s) should immediately capture or summarize the information in a more appropriate medium.

It's analogous to an unrecorded phone conversation. If information is presented by unrecorded voice, the active participant(s) should immediately record the information presented during the call on a managable medium, such as a transcription.

That makes sense to me. It seems workable and defensible.

Let us know how you decide to handle this issue.

I find it a fascinating challenge to try to apply The Principles (developed over 4500 years) to evolving technology.
