Watch some old Perry Mason shows, prior to email and Ol’ Perry is always asking “And then what did he say to you in the hallway?” Or “What did he say on the phone call?”

And then your future hinges on that memory; or, that person’s intent to hang you out to dry. Or the old Clinton line “I don’t recall?”

And now you are thinking “Wait, I don’t remember Perry doing that in a trial??” My point exactly! Your memory is already fading. But email is forever. So just be careful to always say things that you can live with to the day you die………… Or get fired for putting that stuff in an email!

Ironically, half of this List is saying “Who is Perry Mason?” or more likely Googling him. I remember when the collective memory of this list was the first Google. You could ask it anything and it gave you an answer. For young records managers it was like the Magic Eight Ball. It always had an answer. Ironically its answer of “Time will tell” was always right.
