Jim,

Is it possible that your co-worker's view is limited to 10 files?  This small number seems rather odd.
We upgraded from P8 a year or so ago.  I recall that I could customize my displayed view of files from 1 - 2000.  
Typically 100 or so could be displayed on a page and any number of the files displayed could be selected for a particular action including deletion.
Another option is to consider using FEM(FileNet Enterprise Manager) for bulk deletions.
