There are a few types included in the destruction request actually, and they
all have 1 year + current as their retention period:

1. Application for Criminal Justice Records 2. Criminal History Background
Check Log 3. Paid Ordinance Violation Summons

I too do not like to use the "CY + X" language when writing schedule for
just this reason - Confusion. I believe plain language is best. Some
examples might be:

-Destroy one year after close of year in which created

-Close file at the end of calendar (or fiscal) year. Retain for one year and
then destroy.

I also understand what Peter references in the paper vs. electronic realms.
In paper management records (say general correspondence) from the same year
accumulated in a particular location and could be collected, placed in
inactive storage together and disposed of similarly.

With electronic records you could more easily use a rotating one year
disposition process say at the end of each month more easily than with
paper, though media neutral schedules are best which would mean sticking to
an annual process. Records may or may not be in the same container, but
would be located via properly collected/created metadata and treated thusly.
