Jesse, you write that "It's an info management thing, not a political
thing. If it's OK when your side does it and the end of the Republic when
the other side does it, you're a political hack and a hypocrite." Your
comment reminds me of a great exchange we had on Twitter in 2016, when we
were discussing the value of focusing on longterm pattern recognition and
systemic private or public sector records issues. You then tweeted, “Amen.
One of my biggest gripes within RM/IM industry overall – OK when my person
does it, a sin when yours does.” To which I replied, “Yes!!! This. Helps
no one.”

There are obvious tactical and strategic advantages to focusing objectively
and in a nonpartisan way on core professional issues, across public
platforms (Listservs, blogs, Twitter, even Facebook, where user settings
vary in comment visibility, from Custom to Friends to Friends of Friends to
Public). And generally on strategic communications (and not just in the
upper ranks of our varied professions).

Nobody is perfect on strat comml people are human! (Who hasn't thought,
"Gah! Why did I do THAT?" after hitting "send" or "post," right?) But
it's worth taking the time occasionally to step back and look at messages
and metamessages. As I noted in my March 26, 2018 blog post about info pro
"Empowerment," I've been very lucky with friends and family who've given me
candid advice about various in-person and written communications issues
over the decades. And the psychological space to consider it!

One of the best government supervisory handbooks I ever read noted in 2014,
"Trust is difficult to build and easily destroyed." And one of the best
information science blog posts about navigating online space was by Jill
Hurst-Wahl of Syracuse University, who wrote in 2009 about "Identity,
Reputation, Authenticity, Community."

An oldie but goodie, still worth a read!

In the archives field, there's the Archives Leadership Institute, which
draws participants from the private and public sector. You've got the
leadership thing well in hand, obviously, Jesse, but do you know of any
formal info pro training that focuses on becoming what I've heard described
as "an architect of trust" in the age of Social Media? I'm happily retired
and doing Volunteer work in my field now. But I still mentor some
archivists, RMs, and historians on my own, as I know many List subscribers
do, as well (this is Volunteer Week, so thank you all for that). So I'm
looking for newer leadership and strategic communications links I could
share, beyond the one to Jill's good 2009 post.

Hmmm, a Jesse Wilkins blog post would be welcome--in addition to more posts
I'm waiting for from you about cooking (with or without bacon!),
Jesse--even just an aggregation of source links. As you have time (ha)!
