As you have probably heard already, retention timeframe is based on content,
not format or storage location.  Information has a life cycle.  Setting the
retention timeframe based on media is like establishing a single retention
timeframe for paper:

IT Recommendation: Throw it away as soon as possible.
Accountants Recommendation: Keep it permanently, just in case.
Janitor's Recommendation: Hang the founder's photo back on the wall and
flush the toilet.
