My apologies to non-ARMA members:

ARMA's Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) met on August 5-7, 2005. The
SPC consists of the ARMA International Board of Directors, the chair of
the ISG Program, the president of the Institute of Certified Records
Managers, a representative from the ARMA International Company of
Fellows and the ARMA International Educational Foundation, and the staff
directors.

The resulting draft of the 2005-06 Strategic and Operating Plan
<http://www.arma.org/pdf/governance/Strategic%20Operating%20Plan%202005.
pdf> is available in the My ARMA Administration
<http://www.arma.org/myarma> area under Strategic Planning.

There are a couple of things you will notice that have changed from last
year. Some of these changes reflect member input through the ARMA Member
Forum, ARMA member surveys, and the Records Management Listserv. Other
items have been modified or added based on the changing landscape of our
profession.

The SPC is seeking member input on this document. Specifically, we need
input on the Mission and Vision of ARMA International. The SPC was
almost evenly divided on the two different options that are posed in the
document, so both ideas are listed. Member comments and suggestions are
welcome and, frankly, expected. The Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals
of ARMA International are written for the membership. These are the
statements that should excite, inspire and motivate the ARMA staff and
members.

In addition, the SPC added two issues to the Radar Screen and divided
the Radar Screen into professional and association issues. The items on
the Radar Screen have not been ranked according to importance this year.

Additional information on the document itself: The Strategic Plan
includes a short introduction to the planning process and a list of key
terms and definitions. The Operating Plan Goals have been changed to
reflect the program purpose statements that members first saw last year
in a survey regarding value of services. Last but not least, the
strategic plan is a fluid document. It will be changed and updated as
necessary. It will be used by the ARMA International Board of Directors,
ARMA International staff, and ARMA International committees as the basis
for all activities undertaken by the association.

This is your opportunity to have input into the Strategic Planning
process. Please leave your comments on the ARMA Member Forum, or send
them to any of the ARMA board members. The ARMA Board of Directors will
be discussing the Strategic Plan at the September board meeting, and all
member comments will be taken into consideration.

Fondly,
Susan
