legal mandate vs. optional certification?
Dave makes a very good point.
In the US, most engineers don't get certified. The PE certification is
required for certain practices, but most people with an engineering degree
work in a situation where certifcation is not needed.
Similarly, accountants need a CPA for individual practice and various
situations, but many never get that certification.
In RIM, it seems that the CRM isn't legally required anywhere, it is
'only' an indication of accomplishment, capability, etc.
Are there areas of practice where certification should be legally
required?
(me, I'm a techwriter and recovering engineer...)
