Our IS department thought they were record less as well, but after much convincing they now have the following items on their Retention Schedule.

Some common records, which are usually held by every department.

RECORD NAME
Purchase Requisitions - Department Copies
Trade Publications
Material Safety Data Sheets
Vendor Catalogs and Information
Subject Files
Contracts and Agreements - Department Copies
Purchase Orders - Department Copies
Employee Files - Manager's Copies
Calendars
Staff Meetings
Policies and Procedures - Departmental
Policies and Procedures - MWWEC
Vendor Invoices - Departmental Copies
Emergency Contacts
Correspondence - Routine
Correspondence, - MWWEC Policy Related
Chronological Files/Reading Files
Computer Manuals
Announcements
Monthly Financial Reports - Departmental Copies
Inventory of Records
Expense Reports - Departmental/Individual Copies
Forecasts
Budgets - Department Work papers

Then Departmental Specific.

RECORD NAME	DESCRIPTION
Disaster Recovery - Disks, tapes, instructions, etc. needed for a disaster recovery situation.
Log Files - Informational logs of activities dealing with user machines, servers and applications.
Software Licenses - License agreements describing the use of purchased applications
Program Development Requests (PDR) - Form for requesting any work to be done by the IS dept. (New programs, changes to existing programs, etc).
Software Installation Packages (Files) - All of the electronic files necessary to install and run applications.
Operational Documentation - Instructions, Procedures, Notes and Configuration information.

Subject: IT Records


        I am seeking assistance on IT records. Specifically, which records would they be the "owners" of and thus listing them on a records inventory report. Our IT department has stated that they don't own any records. Who is responsible for reporting on backup tapes? for example. Any help would be appreciated.
