I think we are missing the point. If the electorate does not trust the integrity of the system then all the nifty technology is not worth it. There must be an auditable trail on a voter level for any recount. Paper ballots are used in Canada for a reason - the integrity of the system. I hate paper too but the primary concern is the trust of the electorate in the system. 

The integrity of the ballot is paramount in the system. If the electorate does not trust it then it should not be adopted. Vote rigging is an old tradition and we should be finding systems that put integrity ahead of fast results. 

I voted electronically this AM on a Marksense optical scan system and the paper was retained in a lock box. That works for me.
