You asked  " but what if facility destruction could be far in the future? 
"   In the pharma business we must keep a majority of our records for 
extremely long periods of time, most of which are event driven (ie: Life 
of Product - as long as the product is produced by someone, somewhere in 
the world).  All we can do is ensure that the records are retained 
appropriately for the time that we are responsible for them and hope that 
our successors do the same.
