The New York State Archives (Albany) invites applications for the following position:

ARCHIVES AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST III

Salary: $57,606*

The New York State Archives seeks to fill the position of Archives and Records Management Specialist III (ARMS III) to manage state agency services and will report to the Manager of Records Advisory Services (ARMS IV.)  

The ARMS III will provide direct advice and assistance to state agencies on a wide range of archives and records management topics. These include, but are not limited to, records retention, inventory, storage, preservation, access, and information technology. Services will be provided via on-site visits, telephone, correspondence, e-mail, and other means. The ARMS III will deliver training via State Archives workshops and at meetings of state government groups and promote the development of effective state government records management programs through consultations and by referring customers to other State Archives staff as needed. Further the ARMS III will participate in teams to develop workshops, publications, and other records management products and services directed to state agencies, and coordinate the activities of a state agency advisory committee consisting of representatives of various state agencies. Also, the ARMS III will supervise one full-time professional staff (G18). 

The position will require some travel across New York State.

Minimum Qualifications.  
Candidates must be on the Archives and Records Management Specialist 3 list, 
OR be eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law, 
OR have a master’s degree in history, government, business or public administration, political science, American studies, library science, information science, or archival administration, AND have four years of experience in which the preponderance of duties involve: A) analyzing or appraising records and information systems to develop recordkeeping and/or records retention plans for an institution, governmental body, or corporation; B) providing education, training, grant-in-aid, or direct technical assistance services in records management and/or archives administration; C) developing or implementing guidelines, standards, policies and procedures concerning records management and/or archives administration AND D) at least two years of the experience must have included direct supervision of professional staff or responsibility for administration of the program.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $70, 932.
