Subject: Re: What's in it for an employer to require a degree?

<From an employer's perspective what does a degree provide that is
essential to performing the work we do?>

When I'm reviewing job candidates, if I see they've earned a degree then
there's a pretty good chance they have sacrificed, they set their sights
on a longterm goal and were successful. They invested in themselves way
beyond what the law requires. And they've picked up a certain
quantifiable level of knowledge along the way which the college stands
behind.

Requiring a diploma is similar to adhering to other types of standards,
where the marketplace has come to a rough consensus of the diploma's
value. If you can find the talent that fit your standards then it just
makes sense to require it.

All with the caveat that you need to keep an eye out for the rare gifted
applicant who for whatever reason hasn't got around to getting a
diploma.
