In Massachusetts we need a
1) Mayoral Directive and a
2) City Council Order
for the more routine transmittal of City Departments' Public Documents
to our Government Documents Department municipal collections at our
Boston Public Library http://bpl.org/research/govdocs
http://bpl.org/research/special/

Now what public documents are managed to be gathered are done on the fly
by good people like BPL's Sam Jones walking the hallways of City Hall.

Of course transmittal to the web would be ideal !

For too long our BPL's M.F. O'Brien http://www.blc.org/task_forces/FY07/digitization.html
sitting on the Massachusetts Historical Records Conservation Board and our
BPL President Bernie Margolis have neglected the important archiving of
municipal documents... even the Public Library Department's Divisions'
very own institutional public documents are not properly archived
and well managed by certified records managers or certified archivists,
for example BPL Curatorial Reports.

It's also collective bargaining labor relations union stewards' issue
where the public documents are used in the study of labor issues like
of the workplace environment.

Massachusetts state Records management guidelines are often ignored
