I am Trish Broud and it is nice seeing so many "old-timers" introduce
themselves, so I will also.
I've been in records management off and on since 1969 when I took a job
in an historical library as an assistant to the director and ended up
reorganizing their "research" files. Eight years later (after an absence
and two babies) I deliberately took a job as a "files specialist" (there
was no such thing as a records manager in the Federal government listing
of job titles).
After getting my masters degree in Technology of Management, I have been
employed by Government high tech consulting companies hence the "off and
on". They have need of good analysts and writers and rarely have RM
tasks.
I may be one of the few that did not "fall into this business"; in fact,
at a Capital Chapter ARMA meeting years ago our guest speaker from ARMA
HQ asked how many had deliberately chose RM, and I was the only one that
raised a hand. Most of my RM experience has been in Federal Government
records with a few experiences in non-profit and profit entities.
I don't remember when I joined the list, it's been that long, but I
think that I remember when Patrick joined. I've done a lot of lurking,
occasionally I've got an answer that hasn't been supplied by Alan,
Peter, Patrick, Hugh, Jesse (Hi Jesse), Mark, Glenn, Bill, John, etc.,
so I chime in.
For more that three years I've been on a non-RM contract using a
client-supplied computer and hence been "nomail" on the listserve; I've
recently changed that so now I'm getting the daily chatter and may stop
lurking long enough to chime in. Being a contractor with deadlines
affects the time that I have to contribute so expect my posts to be
short.
