Worth remembering that, in fact, not all work product is automatically
"the company's property".
Classic example: the work product of a professional photographer. In
the absence of a signed "work for hire" agreement (by which the
photographer signs away his/her intellectual property rights), the
images below to the creator.

I have first hand experience with this as my brother is an engineer, and
many, many years ago he would argue that the records were his and not
the
company's. I tried explaining why they weren't but it didn't get through
to
him.
