Hi Colin,

We used Lotus Notes for email so just did an export via plugin to Records
Manager. Never messed with Outlook.

You ask a very interesting question that drove many non-records people
batty. In Records Manager a folder is like a paper folder and a file is a
document (record). At least boxes were boxes! Not the same in the
Documentum/Microsoft world of course. Records Manager when it was TrueArc
was in my estimation, the most comprehensive records management software
available. Documentum is working towards a total rewrite/integration with
their core product. Probably won't see a "new" product for another year/

Thanks Charlie

Were you able to search the file plan via outlook or did you have to use
another interface? Also curious if you know about a distinction
documentum makes between a file plan and folder structure?

Thanks again

Cheers

Hi Colin,

I used Documentum's Record Manager for 5 years, right after they
released it after buying the technology from another company (TrueArc).
Unfortunately, my buy out employee, Bayer, decided to scrap it at the
end of last year in addition to many employees, including me.

If you use it as a standalone product, you can drag most file formats
into a file plan of your creation. If you drag it in from Documentum,
you have a choice of transferring or linking. We only linked, leaving
the records in Documentum where it was perceived as being better
protected.

Users of Documentum's Records Manager...

Can you tell me if you're including email integration thru this module?
If so, how does it work in D6? I've been told that you can declare
email as records by dragging & dropping into an exposed file plan, but
that you cannot search other documents in the file plan/folders.

Also, has anyone heard of a distinction of the file plan vs folder
structure in Documentum? I view them as one in the same, but again,
have been told that they're different

Any other observations on Documentum's Records Manager &/or Retention
Policy Svcs would be great to hear as well.

Thanks
