Yes, that's what I mean, although I did not view that particular
webinar. People seem to use a different logic or thought process when
they open up a computer folder screen as opposed to when they open a
file drawer. Some people prefer to see everything up front; some seem
to prefer to wend their way through layers of folder levels. Also, with
paper, they seem more willing to find an appropriate folder for some
hard-to-catagorize document, wherein an electronic file they'll just put
in in the first level they see, sometimes not in a folder at all.

It's a wonder some study has not been done on the differing thought
processes that user employ to file/classify paper documents versus
electronic ones.

Thanks,
Gary

Do you mean like was mentioned in the last ARMA webinar on
autoclassification, "AUto-classification: Is the Silver Bullet Ready?"
by Susan d'Herbes and Tod Knight, where the illustration was to group
animals
(analogy: records) by 1) skin covering, 2) locomotion and 3) diet (three
functions) and having all sorts of odd groupings pop up? This probably
occurs at the manual level when the individual has never had to think
about classifying the record, just putting it in the folder, shoving it
in the box and letting the records management professionals take care of
it.

Thanks,
