You can get your Vital/Essential records programs into good shape during the month of April. The National Archive and Records Administration's Northeast Region is offering 2 excellent opportunities for comprehensive, task-oriented training based on recordkeeping requirements contained in FEMA's Continuity of Operations requirements.
FEMA has released a new directive guiding development of the COOP planning process that highlights the need for agencies to consider the vital/essential records they will need to continue to effectively operate during a disaster or emergency. NARA takes the lead in developing guidance and training to help agencies identify, protect and make accessible these critical records.

Emergency Planning and Response for Vital Records and Essential Information
This course provides knowledge and skills required to identify, protect, and make readily available the vital records in the event of a disaster, as well as to incorporate records emergency planning into agency COOP plans. The course is based on the vital record requirements contained in FEMA's Federal Continuity Directive 1-Federal Executive Branch National Continuity Program and Requirements and 36 CFR.
