CGOC publishes a variety of resources on legal holds and has regional and national events on the topic. For financial services, there is an event April 8th in NY where Citigroup and Merrill Lynch speakers are discussing their approaches; there are also events on legal holds in Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco in April and May for corporate practitioners in legal departments, several of which are hosted by Winston & Strawn. Please let me know offline if you'd like additional information.

In the mean time, you might look at www.cgocouncil.com for papers, case studies, and past presentations from outside law firms such as Mayer Brown, Connelly Bove and Judge Grimm, former Judge Hedges as well as companies in financial services, chemical, telecom, pharma and other industries on legal holds processes, standards, and best practices. The Sedona Conference also has a best practice standard that is a good resource for legal holds processes (working group 1), particularly when viewed in light of European data protection practices (working group 6).

Best,
Deidre

I'm looking for some information on how other companies handle
litigation/compliance holds for detached or subsidiary offices. I work for
a large insurance company with numerous agency offices in the field. We're
trying to determine best practices for handling litigation holds or general
records management with these entities.

Any experience or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Mary Frances Janicik, CRM
