Charlie, I have a paper titled "Technology Assessment of High Capacity
Data Storage Systems: Can We Avoid A Data Survivability Crisis?" (1999
02 03), by M. Halem, F. Shaffer, N. Palm, E. Salmon, S. Raghavan , and
L. Kempster, of the Earth and Space Data Computing Division, NASA
Goddard Space Flight Center, which suggests the "experts" haven't
thought it through.
If you're interested, I'll email it to you (the listserv doesn't
transmit attachments).
Mary Lynne Nelson's posting earlier today (Thursday 4/3, same subject
heading as this message) represents my current thinking.

Fred,
The same can be said about any electronic media. I'm just stating that
the
experts all agree that tape is the way to go.
