Christopher Varlack asked " Does anyone know any of the best products
for automatic fire suppression systems for an archives where sensitive
documents cannot be exposed to water or harmful chemicals?"

Chris, check out "total flooding clean agent" and "high-pressure water
mist" fire-suppression systems.

For an example of a total flooding clean agent, see
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Novec1230/Home/IndustrySolut
ions/ArchivesAndMuseums/

For an example of a high-pressure water mist system, see
http://www.marioff.com/en/news/news2008/08mn27_Anna-Amalia_NT_EN.shtml.
There is also a paper titled " Application of a High Pressure Water Mist
System at the National Gallery of Art" by Robert D. Wilson, a fire
protection engineer. I couldn't find a URL for it, but I have a PDF of
the paper and will email it to you if you want it.

Best regards.

Fred
