Caroline, your response makes a lot of sense because you are talking
about a complete record being kept to meet organizational obligations,
where the university has clearly taken on the role of records custodian.
I might have mis-understood David's posting as it sounded as though the
only record being kept were those that students had forgotten to pick
up. That doesn't strike me as a way to maintain a complete record
designed to meet an obligation, and that raises some red flags for me.
Perhaps the issue isn't only one of retention, but also of record
keeping practice.
