Okay, I know some of my posts drive you up the wall so I am going to
do something that you will really like.
I am going to try to help save your life. And no it does not
involve my own product.

I recently spoke at the National Fire Protection Association and in
the Exhibit Hall I saw some things that were really amazing.

First off, there was a company named BullEx Digital Safety who
manufactures innovative fire extinguisher training devices which are
used by a number of industries, colleges, government agencies, and
members of the fire service.

Why I thought this was important, if your building or your records
center has a fire, a quick response by you or your employees could
save everything, including lives. The products I liked were:

"HotShot is a dynamic LCD screen unit with a self-generating digital
flame that also uses the Smart Extinguisher to sense and grade the
student’s performance."

You can practice your extinguishing technique without a real fire.
Pretty cool.

BullsEye also provides an LCD screen based fire simulator that uses a
laser extinguisher that allows indoor training in your conference
room. You feel like you are fighting the fire and depending on how
precise you are, the fire is suppressed or spreads.

This would be great for an ARMA Chapter meeting and you can rent the
product so it would be cool for a single meeting. Provide a prize to
the best fire fighter. This could also draw management to have an
interest in the records center and subconsciously recognize your
importance.

There is a short online video at http://www.bullexsafety.com

AND NO I DON'T REP OR SELL THIS. I JUST THOUGHT IT MIGHT SAVE SOME
LIVES AND VITAL RECORDS; WHICH IS WHAT I AM ALL ABOUT.

Another product I saw were the new super bright LED Exit lights. You
can use them to direct people to or away from a fire exit. These were
made by Patlite are very small but bright lights and work off low
voltage so they can be used for a pathway. They come in different
colors so the PA could tell you follow the orange lights not the
green lights or follow the orange lights based on where the fire is
located. This would save time and lives.

Discussing these products with your corporate Risk Manager might make
him or her and ally and the next time you are trying to do something
in your area, they might be a little more supportive.

Some engineers are placing exit lights at floor level as well at door
height. Why you say? The smoke rises and blocks out exit lights
mounted high. An exit light at floor level will still be viewable and
this is where you want to be in a fire. The casinos in Vegas are
already doing this.

I also saw a Hot Bag that can be used to protect media in transfer
from heat for a short period of time and insulate the bag from drops,
etc.

See how I am always thinking about you and where is the Love? :~)
