That is true, but when I worked for a large company I worked with the
company attorneys to ensure that contracts contained a clause that basically
said that retention would be in accordance with the company's records
retention schedule. I explained that by including different retention
periods in a contract we would not be consistently applying our retention
schedule to the records. We did not specify a time period in the clause
