Laurie, one thing that continues to strike me about our field is how
Records Managers and Archivists have been the true visionaries of the
information field. Part of that is because we have a set of ideals -
embodied for example in the ISO standards - that we aim for, so our
vision is not limited to what a given current technology may or may not
be able to deliver. It's a vision based (among other things) on a
considerable amount of history, an extended perspective in time, and a
focus on content - a focus that continues to be rare on the information
management side. Because of this, our vision has stood and continues to
stand the test of time, even when its "all about paper" or "all about
disposition" or "all about updatable microfiche" or "all about imaging"
or all about whatever other challenge and opportunity we face.

Someday, I'd like to see you write an article on why you love the
profession. What is it about records management that makes you such a
passionate advocate for it?
