You don't even need to buy the software - just "google" barcode font and
there are quite a few free available. Download it and install it in your
computer's font folder. I've used the barcode font in an Access database
many times.

You can also purchase add-on software (for example, see
www.barcodewiz.com -- there are others) to print ID numbers as bar
codes, which Access doesn't do "out of the box". Single-user licensing
is inexpensive (typically, less than U.S. $200).
