1. We use linear metres (lay the documents flat on top of each other - how
high is the pile of documents?). Doesn't allow for the size (A3, A4 etc) but
given the vast preponderance of A4, statistically it works for us.

2. We use Trim, so we get these sorts of statistics by searching for eg all
records moved to location = offsite, within any date range.

3. Trim (and pretty well all other RM / EDM systems) are abysmal at this
type of metric - we have to search the log files and do our own counts, or
keep our own counters ticking over, using SQL, VB, spreadsheets etc.

4. We ask the customer and agree a deadline on a case by case basis

5. This is far too broad a question. We have service level agreements which
we monitor, eg we will retrieve any file from offsite storage in 24 hours
(faster is possible by request of course), and we occasionally survey
customer satisfaction. But this isn't archives management (well, maybe it
is? I've said many times I'm a records manager and librarian, I'm not an
archivist, and anyway, offsite storage is for us not the same as archives).

Hope this helps.

Glenn

These views are mine alone. They may or may not be those of any
previous or present employers or clients. I don't know. If I'd asked
and they'd agreed, I would have signed it "Harry Peck and Co and
Glenn". Or whatever. But I haven't, so I didn't.
