acking/ A tech-savvy reader who monitors the hackers' site e-mailed me
a detailed explanation of how it went down, who was responsible, and how
someone with a conscience warned a friend of the Palin family of the
crime>
And crime it is. A serious one. Regardless of your political
preferences, committing a crime to have "fun" while invading someone's
privacy is truly not cool, and encouraging such behavior by spreading
its results (such as posting the new password) is just as tainted.
At the risk of being a "troll" (as Jesse puts it) - I am in the process
of completing a research paper on U.S. Federal Privacy Law for the ARMA
International Education Foundation (www.aief.org <http://www.aief.org/>
). I am scheduled to do a session on the paper at the ARMA Conference
in Las Vegas, and the paper will be available on the AIEF site at that
time. I must say, doing the research for this paper has been quite an
education!
