Good afternoon,

We just recently completed an outstanding [physical] records cleanup day last month, and as I was speaking with some of our IT folks in planning a similar cleanup campaign for electronic records, the question came up as to the usefulness of a visual way of measuring the progress of such a cleanup. In other words, during a physical record cleanup you can visually measure your progress by looking at how much stuff you've dispositioned (by checking the waste paper basket or the shred bin).

Does anyone know of a software utility that can be used to measure the volume of electronic records deleted from an Inbox? Or from a hard drive? Some sort of visual software utility that displays the gas gauge of a car that starts out on full, but then moves counter clock-wise to 3/4ths tank, ½ tank, ¼th tank, etc. as files are purged, would be especially kewl!

How have you measure the progress of an electronic records cleanup? By employee? By department? By the company as a whole?

Thanks.
Earl
