"In either your personal opinion-or perhaps from professional experience-taking for granted that one is a competent, motivated professional-where do you think RIM falls on the "recession proof jobs"
scale where 1 equals one of the worst and 10 equals one of the best."

"I would say 8, since the current climate introduces more regulations that business have to adhere to."

I wonder if there is a job that is completely recession proof, especially in the retail industry where I work. My company recently went through a layoff due to the tough economic times and I was fortunate enough to make it through this round. But, if things get worse, then I may not be so lucky. Before I moved to PA, I was working for a large retailer in Dallas called CompUSA. One day the company is doing great business, and the next I am RIFed and before too long the company is essentially out of business. I think that can happen anywhere. Since then I have done everything I can to make myself as important to the company as possible, including obtaining the CRM designation and sticking my nose in as many projects as possible, RIM-related or not. I figure the more I learn and the more I expand my horizons, the less likely I will be let go.

Then again, I never thought I would have been laid off and now working in PA!

Thanks, Steve
