I think that my post got a little off track. I wasn't hunting for a primer on "what is a vision". We've got one (and have had it and modified for many years now). We've had all the lessons on how to write them, vision vs. mission, so then what's a core purpose, how do you match strategic objectives (1/3/5 year plan) to it all, etc. Been there, done that! Not sure we'd reach consensus on this list on the definition of all these things. Probably best to just agree what those important words mean in your own organization and don't worry about what others call it.

To us, a vision statement describes the ideal future state...something to strive for that is almost unreachable but inspires positive forward action. One sentence, maybe two...it is short and snappy! Here is our current one: "We ensure peace of mind for all employees in AstraZeneca by safeguarding essential business records that are the evidence of our innovative science and dedication to patients worldwide." We now think it is a bit wordy and not sharp enough...and want to freshen it up a bit.

So, I was hoping that people would actually cut and paste their own group's 'vision statement' into a response if they have one to provide some inspiration as we revisit ours once again.

Will you share your vision statement with me and/or the list? Maybe you call this your mission, your core purpose, your strategic direction...whatever...anyone want to quote theirs here?
