My understanding is that the CRM designation process was modeled after
the CPA process, including qualifying, testing, and maintaining the
designation.  The process is different (as John Phillips says) from the
process of obtaining an undergraduate or graduate degree.  The value of
a CRM designation depends on the employer and may or may not be
considered as valuable as a college degree.
