Dear Colleagues:

I saw this article on CNNMoney.com this morning and I thought I would throw it out there for everyone's consideration.

I know there has been discussion about this topic before and I find the topic as a whole to be very interesting.  According to the article, the development of a national digital health records infrastructure and database could cost $75-$100 billion.  It's a great idea to be sure.  I would like a doctor to have access to my records if I am sick in one part of the country while I, along with my PCP, live in another part of the country.

Early government estimates show that 212,000 jobs could be created from this initiative, but perhaps the biggest obstacle is overcoming HIPAA privacy issues.  I am certainly not an expert on this subject, but I would love to read what everyone thinks about this topic, both pro and con.
